I was walking outside, haven't seen the nature for a while I was in the city for months and months but now being in the nature for few days it revealed and showed something to me. I was walking in the cold, the snow, it is very humid and with a cold wind and it was even raining, the road is icy, but I wasn't even feeling the cold, I was warm. Or the cold that I wss feeling on my skin was soft. I was feeling really fine and while I was walking I was almost meditating, Life is about creation and destruction, its energy. To live and die. But cruelty and to kill by madness has no place in this world, that is why I decided to pray while I was walking, sometimes by closing my eyes, to pray for peace to all animals and humans and all living beings. And I was thinking about many things, everything but at the same time nothing. In plenitude, and in harmony with the trees around me and the snow falling down and the snow on the ground, in osmosis with everything. Thinking about my life and the paths that awaits me... All the things that surrounds me and my life... I could see energy from my mind in the form of a fire coming alive in my creativity, with flames of very intense colors. And visualizations of lightnings of artistic energy that I want to express, but positive and negative emotions that I don't want to keep in myself but want to create and transform with it. And was thinking about Marta. She's a wonderful woman, I don't want her to think she's like the others. She's so much than that to me, I want her to know that I think about her and that she is very important to me.

Many thoughts from my wicked mind

So since 2 days I'm feeling hyperactive, because I finally got my life back. Found a job - a shitty one though - new place to stay - shitty too. But its a new life and I'm enthousiastic about it.

Since I moved in an hotel room in downtown, I have so much energy, mostly because I finally stay at my own place (well not completly, because its just an hotel room - and a cheap one and ugly one - but its better than when I was staying at my father's place, where I couldn't function at all - couldn't even make phone calls to find an appartment -- so I went in this hotel -- or search for as job -- but I found one luckily), and its in Montreal downtown, right between the Metropolis and Foufounes Electriques, so I just go out in the street and I'm already right there where everybody is shopping and walking, all the buildings, bars etc, I can go by walking to the gym, to the library, etc without even the need to take the bus or subway. Its funny, because I now live in downtown, I feel like I'm rediscovering the city, I feel like a tourist in my own city where I was born in and where I lived all my life, and I even feel like I felt when I was visiting New York city. So as soon as the night starts around here, we constantly hear the traffic, police sirens or the fire department trucks, people from the bars, etc. Crazy.
This is a shitty hotel - kind of like the place in Taxi Driver's final scene - with the ugliest carpet I've ever seen, but its ok. There's a tv, queen size bed, wi-fi, window, small fridge (which is not even in the room yet, but I asked for it).. and nothing else, which is good because I like minimalism and simplicity, my vision of perfection.
Anyways, this month I'll go to work, go on internet, take photos, train in the gym and in the room, eat a lot, I'll see some friends, go out sometimes at the movies, bars, etc.
I must save some cash to buy a new Mac laptop and pro digital camera. My goals for a near future are to become a pro photographer and filmmaker.
I want to study massaging too for one year, but this will cost a lot.
I want to travel to Europe again, in Finland, Paris, Berlin, Bruges, etc. Also, in the summer, maybe one week to Cuba or somewhere else in South America, its pretty cheap for a full package -- plane tickets, beach, hotel, food.

From Hanna on Facebook

"The standard diet of a meat-eater is blood, flesh, veins, muscles, tendons, cow secretions, hen periods and bee vomit. And once a year during a certain holiday in November, meat-eaters use the hollowed out rectum of a dead bird as a pressure cooker for stuffing. And people think vegans are weird because we eat tofu?"

I agree. People are fucking crazy.

=========================================

Those Internet providers, in Canada its companies like Bell and Videotron, they get Internet free and then they sell it, right ? Or do they pay something to the state ? I guess its like the companies that take water for free and then they sell it in bottles, making a fortune out of a free ressource that everybody/nobody owns. Like Internet, water, air, land, etc.

Here in Quebec I often hear in the news they talk about this new thing to make pay in airplane for using the restroom. What's so special about it, people already need to pay for WC in whole Europe so why not in planes too ? Both on land and in planes are ridiculous - why making people pay just to shit or piss; we already pay taxes and we pay for all kinds of services, and for food, etc... then soon we will have to pay for breathing and walking ? It is the airline Ryanair (which I used twice last month) that wants to make people pay for their shitty bathrooms, probably very small and not luxury at all (their airplanes look shitty : the seats, seatbelts, etc), the president of the company says its to make tickets less expensive. I dont understand his logic. THey also want to ask politely to the passengers to go to the bathroom before entering the plane, so that people will weight less and the company will save on fuel. They would save more money if they would refuse obese passengers !

GM Canada received 50 million dollars from the government and still this company says they are still in danger. Oh really and how much do they need ? In the US they got a total of like 4 billions $ I think. They say they are essential to the country. Sorry but a company that needs 50 millions or more to survive is not a good company at all. They say they are bankrupted and they lower the salaries of the employees (which were paid too much, sometimes 70$ per hour) but the CEO's are still taking hundreds of thousands or millions $ per year for themselves. Not a company: thieves; and a plague to the country and to the citizens, like a parasite that never wants to die or a cancer. With this money, imagine all the brillant new companies that young entrepreneurs would have been able to start and would have been profitable to the economy of the country. Also, this money to universities and research would have been very useful. But no, the governement decided to obey to the ridiculous demands of these assholes and then nothing new comes up while this money would have been enough to produce an outstanding new model of electric car. GM and other retarded car contructors of the past are still building SUVs, 4x4 and minivans with oil burning.

--------------------------------------------

We always see ads for milk and dairies on tv telling us we dont consume enough of it and that its dangerous, concerning osteoporosis for instance... Most people drink milk everyday at least with their cereals or at least they eat cheese or yogurt, but the milk industry will always tell us its not enough. Truth is even if you drink 20 gallon of milk each day they will tell you its not enough and you will still be at risk to get osteoporosis; in fact, the more you drink milk the more your chances will increase. So dont drink even a drop of milk or cheese and get your calcium from plant-based foods instead.

THE SWINE FLUE

About the swine flue vaccine and the so-called ''pandemic'', some people think they need it, brainwashed by the medias... We know about 4,000 different viruses... you should get a vaccine for each one of those, otherwise you're in great danger ! ...right ?

One victim of the vaccine: nobody talked about it because I'm the only one who seemed to have understood (or the others keep it secret): the medias said a woman died of the h1n1 a few days after being vaccinated; they said the vaccine was not related to death because it takes about 10 days for the vaccine to take effect. When they say ''the vaccine is not related to her death'' they see the vaccine as something innoffensive. Let me show you the other side of the vaccine: she was already infected by the virus when she got a shot of the vaccine: this is what caused her death, because her immune system was already fighting something, and then they injected into her body the same virus and adjuvants, which weakened her body, she has been unable to win over the virus, while for most people it is not a problem.

A hundred nurses, doctors and other workers of an hospital in Montreal got a shot of the wrong vaccine. In fact, they received doses of H1N1 vaccines which contained twice too much the amount of adjuvants, an error that happened at the facility where it is produced. So they will have received in total 3 times more adjuvants than the others who got the vaccine, which already contains 10 times more adjuvants than all prior types of vaccines.

---------------------

It was called the SWINE flue and should have remain the same but they changed it for A (H1N1) because the pig farmers were mad. Like the avian flue, the swine flue came from intensive farming: overpopulation of chickens spread the virus so it had years to mutate into a strain able to break the specie barrier to humans. Now, the same happened with pigs. KARMA. Pandemics (#1 threat to the total extinction of the human specie) are the price to pay for domesticating animals 10,000 years ago. The meat and dairy industry are also the culpit for food intoxications: E.Coli, Salmonella and other dangerous bacterias all come from one comon thing: excrements of farm animals. We throw it where there is some space, which is anywhere they can find: on the soil, in our rivers, etc; the rest serve as manure to fertilize the soil to grow vegetables and grains, corn and soy (most of it goes to feed cattle...). So we end up with contaminated meat or milk, cheese, but also contaminated fruits, lettuce, spinach, vegetables, processed food... always consequences of meat-eating. It will never end until people stop eating meat, meat full of shit.

Travel Diary II

FINLAND

Arrived around the 13th. Met Hanna in a café, she's the reason why I come to Finland -- and she's the main reason of this whole trip. When I think about it now, there were many situations where I would have asked myself if it wasn't of her: ''what the hell am I doing here, in this foreign country, this big city, in the middle of millions of strangers?'' but Hanna exists so I rarely asked myself this question or when I did I just started to think about her and I was fine, otherwise I would have felt a bit lost and this whole trip would be pointless or would seem like it.
Anyway its great that since I arrived I visited Tampere, Helsinki and Espoo and met many Finns (Hanna's friends). Eventhough the time we spent together wasn't perfect, its still great, thank you Hanna:) Kiss. Nothing's perfect anyway, things happen and that's how it is.
So we went to a vegan buffet, was really good. (When I'll be back in Mtl, I'll definitley go to that similar vegan joint which I never been because I thought I wouldn't like it). We went many times for a walk with the dog, a lovely dog named Tessa, always to different spots so that I see different things of Finland, like a lake, or an abandoned mansion. Those walks were great, thank you Hanna..

FINLAND

Midnight, night of the 16th-17th of September (which day are we ? I don't even know).
I'm in a bar, cool place, in Finland. Nice place to chill out; called Ravintola Artturi - Ruoka & Baari. Probably much better (for me or at least at this moment) than this nightclub that I saw not far away and that had a long line-up just to enter. Had a big glass of beer, shot a small video, nice decoration, great music. Most songs are in English though; I like Finn music. Just chilling out, writing ideas for movies to make. There,s even old Finnish books on a shelve and some old artifacts. I took some Finn vintage magazines and books for kids with illustrations because I can't understand a darn word in Finnish of course.
i'm here alone because I had a little problem with Hanna earlier. We were supposed to go in town together but because I was taking time (a matter of minutes or seconds) she decided to just go. It would have been fine as for I went out 20 seconds after her to go catch the bus but I took the wrong path and then it was too late. Came back to take my stuff and took the bus. Its better like this maybe. As I always say: nothing happens for nothing. I don't like so much waiting in the morning that she wakes up, and then she writes emails for hours or send text messages. She has the right to do whatever she wants, its just that I dont have bus tickets or money to go in town and come back later, I felt kinda in a situation I where I can't move. I should have just go walking in the woods and explore. And this whole thing of having no cash, just a credit card, is stupid from me, and created some tensions between me and her as she had to pay for my tickets. But the worst is that Heini girl who decided to bitch about Hanna on the web just when I'm in Finland visiting and Hanna had to spend hours arguing with her, so I wa slike: 'I want to spend every minute with you beauty, you're so lovely and cute, I kind of like you, I like to just massage your feet and your legs and 2 feel your skin but you're there writing stuff on the internet and then you,re stressed and can't find your breathe.' ... Anyways, I'm not here to complain or whatever, I just needed to express my feelings; things happen, what's done is none, its the past and now I'm here.
I'm here now in that bar in Finland. NOthing so extraordinary but if I stop to think about it: hey, I'm in Finland, in a bar, who would have thought just a few months ago, back in Quebec. Its still pretty special. And I'll be in other cities and countries of the world soon. I hope I can travel many times in the future. So I'm here now and I think about her because she's a nice girl, very lovely. I hope at least I'll see her again before I leave the country... Of course I will; why wouldn't I?... She's a lovely girl.
The song ''No Woman No Cry'' by Bob Marley is playing in the bar, great song and I just listen to it, doing nothing else. So true, what he says in the song. At least I feel like this at the moment.

Travel Diary I

LONDON
7th September
Once there was this teenager walking with his mother, I asked him politely where is this street I've been looking for hours, and he continued his way without looking at me and made a sound like ''euinh...'' as if he was gonna throw up just at the idea of helping a stranger. I laughed and told to this little bastard to go fuck himself in French.
I didn't like London especially because when I arrived I saw those restroom at the train station that we need to pay to enter. Never saw that before in America. So I had to go outside and search for free restrooms. But now I see bathrooms like this everywhere in Europe, so I often piss outside in the streets,. I also didn't like London because the city, the streets, are built as if it was designed by a thousand different retards, because there's one street in that way, then it changes name or most of the time the name of street isn't even written or not clearly, and then it turns and split into many streets. I had a map but never found any spots I wanted to go, like when I wanted to leave the country; and just to be even more fucked up, the cars are going in the opposite directions than in America and most of Europe... Didn't stay long in that damned city. But I will return in a few weeks and will probably enjoy it more because I will be more prepared, maybe with a couch at someone's place to stay overnight and then just go out with no stress and go to a vegan joint.

milk and osteoporosis

http://healthandfitness.sympatico.msn.ca/Home/ContentPosting_50Plus?newsitemid=084c9522-a7fb-4c5e-bd43-d9c030cd11e6&feedname=50_PLUS&show=False&number=0&showbyline=True&subtitle=&detect=&abc=abc&date=False

This is sad: another article on osteoporosis, but they are not saying anything new. They write: osteoporosis does not have to be 'an inevitable part of aging'. Well, with the advices they give, it will continue to be inevitable, because what they are telling to do (taking calcium supplements, drink milk, eat dairy products, fish, and other sources of calcium) is what people already do, but they are still getting osteoporosis - millions of people... they are all eating cheese, fish, etc. And no matter how much they will increase their calcium intake, it wont change anything for this disease. You know the milk advertisement and the question all nutritionists ask 'are you getting enough?' (milk, dairies)... well, eventhough people eat more and more of this, they are still saying its not enough, because diseases related to teeths and bones are still high and getting higher; so they say: drink even more milk. Thing is: too much is like not enough. What they nned to say is: eat less proteins, eat more fruits and vegetables. These foods give plenty of calcium, without excess of proteins. No matter how much calcium you get, if you eat too much proteins, your body will acidify itself and it will leak calcium out of your teeths and bones for alkaline minerals (calcium). As soon as you get too much proteins (and we dont need a lot... only about 10% of your total calories intake, while people get 20-25%... so eat about 30-40 grams of proteins a dayrather than 70-80+)... so as soon as you get too much proteins, you have a negative calcium balance, and taking a ton of calcium supplements wont change anything.

Milk, dairy products, fish, etc are killing people.

Check out those videos from a new documentary on the truth about milk !

meat-eaters

ok, youtube deleted my account where I uploaded some videos describing meat-eating...That's too bad but i oppened a new one... and I can write here also anyway :)

meat-eaters eat an average of 85 animals per year. We kill an estimated 53 billion animals for food each year in the world, this number does not include fish and all marine animals, so that comes up to an estimated 100 billion animals annually. Add the millions of animals killed for fur and the dozens of millions animals killed for testing shampoo and other cosmetics or medications...

Flesh-eaters: necrophages = corpse-eaters... assassins, serial killers, mercenaries, brutes... eating meat without hunting: scavengers, sapotrophs, detritivores... Vampires, bloodsuckers, parasites, leeches, worms, vultures, carnivores, cannibals... killing animals / eating dead animals with no remorse: psychopaths, schizos... eating carcass: freaks, sickos...

sugar

ok I just have to rant about madness of society in little things, details that nobody would notice but its there: increddible amount of sugar -- when it is not necessary! -- I got this green tea bottle by Nestea -- they make adds saying its healthy and stuff, loaded with 'natural tea polyphenols' crap, but all there is in that is water and sugar - sugar/glucose-fructose syrup; 42g of sugar per bottle. If its for donuts and stuff, I understand it would taste crappy without sugar... but green tea tastes good naturally without any sweetening or just a little sweezed lemon or fruit juice. I regret I bought this but at least it wont happen again soon: I got at home some green tea leaves, ginkgo biloba, hawtorne, and I can even infuse them under the sun instead of putting boiling water on it. Then just some juice from a fresh grapefruit... got a nice, refreshing beverage perfect at anytime during the day.

rain, music, green tea, sun, energy, creativity

The other day I saw a woman buying BLOOD PUDDING at the grocery store. How pathetic and disgusting... People are vampires! Parasites, mosquitos, carnivores...

---------------

It rained since most of the summer... well it wasn't really 'summer' if it rains and if its cold almost everyday right? And then since 2 weeks its always really hot and humid, air filled with pollution due to smog... when too much is not enough... and then it rains again.
Anyways, I wont complain too much; I got a nice tan, I'm not working except if I want to, but I dont want to right now, maybe this week-end of next week, so I'm in vacation. And in about 2 weeks I leave for Europe, for my first ever real trip on my own. I went to Republics Dominican before but I was so young... A one-month trip to visit all the nice cities: london, paris, stockholm, etc...
...So now it rains, I'm at the main library of Montreal, listening and ripping some Cds of chillhout music, rap (ghost face killah, method man, and some french hip hop...). I'm blogging. Later today I'll go back home, chilling, maybe have an energy drink, then to the gym for full-body workout ending with yoga relaxation, then perhaps to vegan restaurant Aux Vivres. Life is beautiful. Soon (starting slowly today and then week-end and for the whole week ) I'll eat a clean vegan diet again, for cutting, detox, etc: mostly fruits, greens, green tea, hemp protein powder. I like the feeling it gives me, and increased energy despite the very low calorie, so I can focus on training, moving, create; healthy lifestyle.

some old text I've written offline

In 1950, there were almost 3 billion humans on Earth. In October 2009, we will be 6,7 billion. And in 2042, we will be almost 9 billion on this planet. So in 100 years, total population tripled: 3 times more water drinker, 3 times more food needed to feed all the mouths; 3 times more of everything, but still only one planet to satisfy everybody. Already millions of people dying of hunger in 1950. Will there be 3 times more people dying of hunger? Probably even more.
Las Vegas is built in the middle of the desert where there is not a single drop of water. There's still people arrousing their grass, but there's more and more people beginning to be aware that soon their city will face a tragic shortage of water and people won't even have water to drink or to wash themselves.

_______________

One day I was working with a boy of 16 years old or so. He went to McDonalds for lunch, and talked about pops many times throughout the day, eventhough I told him I'm not interested in that and I don't drink soft drinks or very rarely. He was talking about the cost of soft drinks and the quality of each brand, the different levels of carbonized water in each pop. Guess what he ate for dinner? McDonalds again. He bought a BigMac among other things. And of course he got acne.

Monsters

I love all animals, even insects, but I don't like at all those that could eat me, and all those that suck my blood or attack me for other reasons then just for their defense. I understand a rhino that charge on me if I'm on his territory; he's afraid, he thinks I might attack him, if I show him I dont want to hurt him and I leave, perhaps he wont harm me. I don't like those carnivorous animals that will bite me just because they're fucked up in the head, just because they're natural born killers. I love plants but I wouldn't like if a fucking carnivorous plant eats me alive (I know its not really possible). Meateaters and other sickos eating corpses of dead animals in the form of a Big Mac... I hate those fucking vampires: bedbugs, ticks, catfleas that jump on you to suck your blood, red ants that eat you alive, fucking leeches, bats - all those blood suckers are ugly animals or is it just coincidence? - moose flies, black flies, mosquitos and other bugs that spread diseases, Aids and other viruses... intestinal worms, carnivores, killers and other predators, parasites and other calamities of this world that nobody likes. I mean I like cats, they're cute, and nice - when domesticated - but I dont like them when I see them having fun torturing a poor innocent mouse, totally terrified, pretrified with fear, her tiny heart beats so fast that it could explode, and those cats like that, they're not even killing the mouse, just hitting it with their paws and claws and teeths, playing for half an hour. What if I did the same thing to them, I'm sure they wouldn't like it, and I wouldn't like it either. For a few weeks I was being really stressed out because of work, and because of my cat itself always making noise because she was herself stressed of her first pregnancy, then she was stressed and acting insane with her new born kittens so sometimes I would throw my cat 5 meters away, I would just grab her suddenly and throw her, so she became afraid of me, and each time I was doing this I felt so bad for her and guilty, and she was getting even more stressed and unhappy, and me too, which is a sign that violence and brutality are bad. Good and Bad DO exist, no matter if there's a God or not, or justice, law, police, whatever: we feel fear, remorse, joy, these feelings represent abstract, yet real, values: good and bad. Yes death is natural. Yes a tiger killing an antilope is natural, but not necessarily good just because it is natural... Bad is natural too. But just because its natural doesn't mean we must do it. We can do the Good, natural way too.
I'd like a world without those parasites. If we cant make them disapear, at least let's change, us, humans that eat flesh like vulgar ogres.. come on, wake up ! are you so decadent that you eat some dead chickens with dead skin, dead muscles, with blood, nerves, and you always ask for more...

A vegan world and how it would be possible

This is inspired by the comment of a Youtube user on my video 'Meat Eating : an History of Violence'

Comment :
I definitely think there is a correlation between meat-eating and violence.

That said, I don't think veganism is a panacea. It won't fix everything. But it will go a LONG way to creating peace on Earth.
(Kangarooelaine)

Of course wars and murders would not stop suddenly just because people are vegans, as if it was a miracle, because people can’t all become true vegans overnight. It depends how the change to a vegan diet happens. More precisely, it depends if people are on a vegan diet or if they become vegans. Two different things, with two different results. If people are forced to be on a vegan diet because we abolish meat, but they still want meat, they may become even more violent. They will be on a vegan diet, but they won’t be vegans, and they might even continue to kill eachothers and still be on a vegan diet… unless they eat eachothers. After a few generations on a vegan diet, meat won’t exist anymore in the culture and customs of people, and maybe the ethical aspect of veganism will appear and then violence will slowly disapear. The change may come from outside (for instance, the government abolish meat, or, overpopulation overflows and the meat industry cannot provide flesh for everyone – but let’s hope they don’t turn to human flesh… which is very probable), and then people are forced to change. Or they choose to change by themselves, but this option may take much longer, perhaps hundreds of years.
But in both cases, at the end, the change must come from within also, it is the only solution.

Statistics about women

Prostitution : each year, over 2 million young girls aged between 5-15 years old end up on this market.
1,2 %: it’s the percentage of new women running the 55 biggest firms in USA.
WAR- 80% of victims of manual fire weapons (shotgun, machine gun, grenade…) are females.
Each second…a woman is victim of violence at home… in occident.
20% is the percentage of women in occident who are victims of a sexual agression or a rape attempt in their life.
Mutilation: over 130 millions of women were victim of genital mutilation in the world.
WHAT SHOULD WE EAT ? may be biaised).
But my conclusion is that fruits are the only ideal food for humans.
Fruits ? Vegetables ? Animal products?
This post is mostly about wether or not we should eat vegetables. I'll let you judge by the links provided (but search for other sources too, for those here

http://www.13.waisays.com/plants.htm
http://www.fibermenace.com/
http://raypeat.com/articles/articles/vegetables.shtml

So these are 3 links provided by someone who eats only raw meat and raw animal products (raw eggs, milk, butter...) telling me that plants are toxic because 1) fibers are not edible 2) most of vegetables contain built-in pesticides/insecticides to naturally fight against predators/to prevent from being eaten.

From the 1st link :
We are not pigeons.

We are not cows.

Therefore we don't have a crop to digest cereals, nor 4 stomachs to gradually digest grasses or leaves.

Right... and are we tigers ? Are we lions or hyennas? No, therefore we don't have the special enzymes and short digestive tract to degrade animal proteins.
We are primates, and like the anthropoid apes we are designed to eat fruits. Most apes eat a diet composed of 99% plant-based food, (most calories come from fruits, the rest from greens) and 1% animal food (the insects on the greens they eat).

My opinion about fibers: I don't think they are harmful to health in adequate amounts. Just because they are not edible doesn't mean they are harmful. They are not useful to digestion itself (unlike many ignorants and dieteticians tend to say or think) - in fact, they slow down digestion and make it harder - but they are good for afterwards : to help get rid of the other wastes (cuz fibers are wastes).

My opinion about the self-defense elements found in plants to protect themselves against species who wish to eat them... Ok, so cows and other herbivores have the digestive system to deal easily with those subtances but we don't ? Why not? 4 stomachs ain't necessary. We have 2 stomachs (1 stomach in two parts) unlike carnivores, who have only one simple stomach. I think we can digest grains and vegetables quite efficiently, but not necessarily optimally (worse with meat and animal products. But we digest fruits optimally).

We have the pro-meat/anti-vegans people who say those molecules are harmful to humans. On the other hand, I've heard from vegetarian dieteticians that those defenses of the plants against insects, microbes and viruses and beneficial to us when we eat them; when we eat those plants those same molecules are then protecting us from viruses, etc, rather than harming us.

Some people say also that plants contain too much insecticides/pesticides sprayed by humans. Not if you buy organic products. If you eat animal products, what you eat is even more toxic because it stored much more insecticides in the animal flesh, after years of intensive feeding.

Those phytochemicals are used both as ingredients for insecticides as well as making supplements supposedly scientifically proven to be effective for their potential health-promoting properties on humans.

Whatever if vegetables are good or bad for us, I don't think some greens everyday can harm us, especially if you choose the ones with no 'harmful' molecules, but I think the optimal diet for humans is fruitarianism.
For those wondering if only fruits can provide enough proteins, you can visit this website for infos. http://www.thefruitpages.com/sugar.shtml We can also add a few nuts and seeds to add some proteins.

I think that the ideal, and natural diet for humans is a low-fat raw vegan diet, has presented in the book 'The 80/10/10 Diet' by Dr.Douglas Graham. It consists of mostly fruits, and raw vegetables, with small amounts of seeds, nuts and avocados.

What's funny is that the diet suggested on the 1st link provided by the anti-vegan guy, is a mostly fruit diet. All meals are fruits, and some raw nuts. The only thing which is not fruits is 1 or 2 raw eggs per day.
http://www.waisays.com/suggestions.htm

Carnivores

There's quite a lot of animal ingredients in the vaccine list. I don't know if they are all true, or maybe for some of them it's rarely used. But I'm pretty sure there are even more freaky stuff in other goods. Like for some soaps, do they use human fats ? What do they do with all the fats removed from liposuccion surgeries ?

http://www.vegetarianvitamin.com/vegetarian.php#gluten

Also in lots of food including bread, they use monoglyceride and diglycerides without citing if it's animal (cow or hog... or human? who know, lol) or vegetal derived.
Same with sodium stearoyl lactylate.

Some red dyes are made from the cochineal beetle. These are usually labeled as cochineal, carmine, or carminic acid.

And I've read also there's human hair in bread. Check if cystine, cysteine, l-cystine is listed (usually in industrial bread and tortillas, not artisanal bread) because sometimes this amino acid is taken from human hair, which apparently are not only used to put on the head of dolls...

Also known as l-cystine, our research indicates that the source of cysteine is human hair. Cystine is an amino acid needed by humans, which can be produced by the human body. A very small quantity is used in less than 5% of all bread products. Often the hair of third world women is used.

So if we eat bread that contains human hair proteins, are we cannibals ?
Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) and other great naturalists often said that eating animals is not far from anthropophagy and cannibalism. After all as humans we're animals, the human animal. And many carnivore animals and insects perform cannibalism. Humans performed cannibalism during Stone Age as well as "primitive" tribes and sometimes in our modern society.

And let's not forget all the crushed rodent parts and insect fragments that end up in peanut butter, pastas, flour, etc... Anyone wants millipede flavoured chocolate ?

DRUGS

In Kaboul, a bottle of wine costs more than enough heroin to suply a junkie for one full day.
There's some catacombs filled with semi-conscious junkies who lie down like zombies when they're not taking their drugs. The tv journalists say that there is an horrible smell made of the sweet odor of burned opium mixed with the odor of human excrements.
After a while the junkies are a bit bothered by the presence of the camera and they begin to talk louder:

"My life is a disaster"
"You make money and we smoke this poison"

After heroin and cocain, opium is really easy to find in Afghanistan because it is produced in large amounts from the near countries.
There is also new "drug" very popular over there: the toxic skin of a frog which when smoked is hallucinogenic.

There is 60,000 kids addicted to heroin in Afghanistan. A 12 year old girl who's nick name is Blue Angel has been addicted to heroin for half her life, since the age of 6 year old; her mother was supplying her the drug. Now at the age of 13 she's finally cured and she jokes about getting married and she wants to go to school.

++++++++++++++++

In Columbia, the traffic of cocain is huge since many decades. But now Mexico is even bigger. The state arrested 40,000 drug dealers and producers. Seized 8,000 tons of marijuana, 67 tons (not sure of this number, I forgot, it may be more) of cocain, etc...

What is not vegan

So of course there,s animals in meat, and animal products in food : dairies, eggs, etc. And some clothes made of silk, wool, or litterally all the skin or fur of an animal. But what about the other things ? You would be surprised... There's animal products in almost everything. Vaccines with aluminium, mercury, antifreeze, human and animal tissues and embryos...

TIME BOMBS

A new documentary about soldiers veterans who have been exposed to radiations for military experiments by the US army.

Time Bombs
Canada’s atomic veterans fight for recognition
Published November 8, 2007 by Drew Anderson in Television
The federal government has ignored the plight of Canadian veterans dying from exposure to radiation caused by nuclear tests in Nevada in 1957, according to Time Bombs, a new documentary to be aired on Global television November 10.

According to Eric Ruelle, who directed and produced the documentary with Guylaine Maroist, the initial seed for the film was a small article written by two journalists in Montreal in 1957. That article, small on details, spoke of a top-secret mission in the States. It took the duo 10 years to track down the necessary sources and find a television network interested in the project.

That mission was named Operation Plumbbob, the largest nuclear testing project ever undertaken, involving thousands of American soldiers and a handful of unknowing Canadian volunteers. The soldiers were exposed to six nuclear blasts and then ordered to participate in war games amongst the fallout, to test their reactions to orders after the explosion.

Jim Huntley lived through those blasts and helped organize the Canadian Atomic Veterans Association in 1995 to help fight for recognition of the veterans. “We were sent there and they knew we were guinea pigs,” says Huntley, who bristles with anger at the treatment the veterans have received from the government. “We flew in helicopters through that cloud.”

Huntley is leading the charge in the association’s fight against the government, a task bestowed on him thanks in part to his good health. Of 40 soldiers sent to Nevada in the summer of 1957, 22 or more are dead, and the survivors are riddled with cancer and arthritis. Jim is the healthiest surviving member of the unit.

The task has proven difficult. The group has been denied, ignored and shuffled through the storied Canadian bureaucracy, stymied at every turn and lied to by political officials. After years of trying to get information and compensation, the association was finally promised a package by former defence minister Gordon O’Connor, according to Huntley, but the deadline for that package has come and gone without a word.

“There’s no going back. They lied to us. The minister of defence lied to us. He came here in July and told us we were getting a package on the 15th of September. We have nothing, not even a phone call,” says Huntley after a screening of the documentary in Calgary. He says the government is now trying to send the group back to square one. “They told us they’ve never heard of us. I said to the secretary, ‘We’ve talked to you for a year and a half. You don’t know who we are?’” says Huntley.

Anger is pervasive amongst those still alive. The flashes of light, the shockwaves and the dust from the explosions remain seared in their memories. “I get angry and I get more angry… I’m ashamed,” says Bob Henderson, a veteran of the tests, clutching an oxygen tank that resembles a violin case. Most of the participants that he was acquainted with, he says, served in the military long-term. “They served their country with pride, with dignity and most of all with honour. What the hell has the government done for us? Nothing. They’ve tried to sweep us away.”

Henderson echoes a disturbing conclusion shared amongst the survivors: that the government is waiting for all of them to succumb to the radiation they ingested 50 years ago. “They’re holding back because they know we’re falling,” he says wearily.

In 1992, the American government finally admitted its culpability for exposing soldiers to nuclear blasts and awarded compensation. “They finally admitted that it was a human experiment, it’s written in black-and-white — a human experiment. They really wanted to see how they would react in a nuclear war. So they would say to the soldiers, ‘don’t worry about radiation, it’s OK, Mother Nature will take care of you,’” says Ruelle. “I’m now very ashamed of my government, I’m now very ashamed of my country.”

Ruelle and Maroist are not letting go of the story, or the veterans they have befriended while filming Time Bombs, and have pledged to continue fighting for them after the release of the film. “We’ve made a commitment to ourselves… we have a moral commitment to ourselves and to the guys, we cannot let them go,” says Ruelle. “We need to take this to the end, because if we don’t, we don’t succeed. Success is not having everybody clap at the show and everybody say ‘hey, great show.’ No, the success is having the government acknowledge and compensate those guys.”

The Health Studio Newsletter (Volume 1, Oct. 1997) Vaccine Fillers and Ingredients
In many cases the vaccine additives are far more toxic than the viral component. This is particularly true for thimerosal, which is mercury. In 2000, Congress "strongly recommended" that the pharmaceutical companies take the thimerosol out of vaccines (it was not mandated; simply recommended). The drug companies were not told to take the existing lots off the market. The recommendation only applies to new product lines manufactured. An unknown amount of vaccine containing thimerosal (mercury) may still be on the shelves."

Disparate brings dissonance, osmosis brings harmony

Recently a cardiologist killed his 2 kids and then attempted suicide. His wife was out skiing for the week-end. When she came back she had no more kids. The cardiolog was an expert about heart but knew nothing about the mind, he didn't know he was depressed and he killed his kids... The cardiologist failed to kill himself with drug overdose and ended up at the same hospital he was working to, but his own hospital didn't want him so he was sent to another one.
This kind of things happens a lot here in Quebec: someone (usually a man - but often a mother too) kills all the kids before killing himself. Why ? Why can't you just kill yourself and leave the kids alone ? Marc Lepine shot 20 female students in 1989 at Montreal polytechnique... People lost touch with themselves. People don't live in a holistic way anymore, They don't gather all the facets of their own human being, body and mind, and they are disconnected from reality as well as the society and the other living beings around them, so when just one part fails to work properly, all their mind breaks, instead of repairing it with all the tools around them. But they are too weak to act on themselves only, because they all still connected to their own pathetic, material, insignificant life, so they need to remove another part, the most important one, of their own life : their kids; only after this they stop to exist and don't have any reason to continue on living so they commit suicide.

So nowadays people lost touch with the holistic aspect of life and everything is specialized. One studies the science of heart and knows nothing about the rest of human body. Another one knows feet. Another one about the health of teeth but not about the health of the whole body. Another specializes in reproductive organs... Doctors know about diseases, treatments, drugs, medicine and why we die but know nothing about health and how to stay healthy, they don't know anything about good nutrition.
Scientists say hot peppers are healthy because there is good molecules in it. But what about the other molecules ? And even dieteticans are playing the card of separating everything instead of looking at things as a whole. Take iron, Vitamin C, E, D, A, eat calcium, eat omega-3, zinc, magnesium...
NO : eat almonds, eat oranges, eat figs, dates, etc... We have dieteticians promoting alcohol consumption claiming it reduce cardio-vascular diseases, telling us to drink 1-2 cups of red wine everyday like alcoholics, and then after many years studies show that this doesn't have much benefits, not more than eating better, or regular physical activity. And then a recent study by the American National Cancer Institute (NCI) on 180,000 women says that women drinking those 1-2 drink of alcohol per day have 32% higher risks to developp breast cancer, and 50% increase for 3 drinks or more. Good for the heart and bad for the breasts ?? BAD FOR HEALTH !!!
Stop dissect everything, stop removing everything to keep just one thing, because it doesn't work like this. Synergy is essential to life. The universe is a whole, life is part of universe, we're part of the universe, and if you remove just one thing everything else will colapse.
Barack Obama's phrase "Yes We Can". Sure, but to be done, someone must do it. And only one person is not enough. Obama didn't say "Yes I can". The WE is of primary importance, it is everybody who must act in order to make things change.

Xenoestrogens, poison of the new century

They are alien oestrogens, which mimic real oestrogens that our body produce. But they are much more harmful, they last longer and it's difficult to get rid of them. They are endocrine disrupters, which may affect the proper functioning of thyroid, immune system and many organs. They can seriously affect the hormonal balance of men and women, as well as the fauna. Rivers are contaminated by xenostroegens, fish become hermaphrodites. Water treatment can not eliminate xenoestrogens, so now more and more cities install a new processing system with ozone.

Where are they?
Environment is full of it. We find those undesirable hormones in:
pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, petrochemicals,
tap water, bbq, paint, glue, solvents, paint removers, plastics, in meat of animals fed with food containing pesticides, detergents industry: cosmetics, cleansers, hygiene products, air pollution: gasoline, diesel, nail polish containing toluene or phthalates.
Dyes containing phenylenediamine, towels and tampons bleached with chlorine, phthalates, synthetic components that increase the flexibility of plastic, anti-lice shampoos (pesticides), cigarette smoke.

What they do?
if the body fails to dispose of estrogen excess, following disorders may occur: uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, cystic fibrosis of the breast, heavy menstruation blood flow, acute PMS, endometriosis, risk of breast cancer and other cancers.

---

Xenoestrogens are synthetic chemicals that mimic or interfere with estrogen in our bodies. They form a subset of a broader group of chemicals known as endocrine disruptors.

Exposure to xenoestrogens, which are found in pesticides, PCBs, plastics, and other industrial chemicals, has been linked to breast and ovarian cancers in women and to decreased testosterone levels, prostate cancer, and lowered sperm count in men. These damaging effects have been found in fish, reptiles, birds, rodents, and humans.

These chemicals are found in soil, lakes, and rivers as pesticide run-off from agricultural usage. They are present in polycarbonate plastic food wraps and containers and are also found in herbicides and pesticides on fruits and vegetables. Because hormones such as estrogen act in the body at very low levels (parts per trillion), exposure to even small amounts of environmental endocrine disruptors concern scientists. Although the plastic and chemical industries refute the links between their products and the effects of endocrine disruption, the government environmental agencies in Canada and the US have begun to screen potentially xenoestrogenic chemicals and to undertake more research into the impact these chemicals have on animals and humans.

100 million tons of plastic in the sea and in fish
The scientist Charles Moore discovered a while ago that there is tons of tiny pieces of plastic  floating in the Atlantic. This is due to all the plastic used in society, all the plastic bags, drink bottles  and all kind of containers we throw away in rivers, it's then ripped in tiny pieces  in streams against stones or with errosion due to sunlight. It all end up in the ocean, tiny pieces (1-3 mm) or some larger (few cm) found in the stomach of fish. The explorer Marcus Eriksen fished a tuna he wanted to eat, he opened it and he found 14 different pieces of plastic in it. He didn't eat the fish. There is 100 million tons of plastic in the Atlantic between Japan and Hawaï. Those fragments of plastic float right under the surface of water, so it is visible from a boat, but not from satelitte photographies.

He was proud and said to lot of people he was the author, so after a while he got caught. 8 months in a correction center for kids.

Ethanol production is dangerous for quality of fresh water in the world, due to the huge quantities of water, pesticides, insecticides and toxic fertilizers to produce astronomical quantities of grains for fueling cars. W. Bush wanted to increase ethanol to 130 billion litres in ten years (6 times more than in 2006). Corn is #1 grain used to make ethanol, but it is also the type of cereal which require the most fertilizers and pesticides.

Milk could be the cause to hyperactivity in kids, shows a recent Norwegian study. Professors and doctors named Knivsberf, Noedland and Fosse, from Stavanger University in Norway, tried the lactose free diet on several kids suffering AD/HD (attention deficit and hyperactive disorder) and positive results appeared on the first day, they become more calm and can concentrate and study better; the kids who kept with the diet were able to have much better results at school than before.
Scientist Karl Ludvig Reichelt studied this subject for a long time and arrived to the conclusion that undigested peptids of casein (milk proteins) can have the same effects on the brain than opium does. Many studies show a connection between autism, schizophrenia and the non-disintegration of milk proteins. Many kids are lactose intolerant and this problem may cause certain behavioral disorders. But we must not belive that milk is the cause to all cases of Attention Deficit among all kids.

But, to end on a happier note (kind of)... Canadian artist Leonard Cohen donated 200,000$ to help the victims of the fires that hit Australia. Cohen is in tour in Australia this week. This is very nice of him, knowing that not so long ago he was bankrupt after his record manager has been stealing millions $ of him, so Leonard HAD TO DO this world tour, it wasn't a choice. He's now over 70 years old but still very active, after a dozen of successful records.

Endocrine disrupters

MSG, GMO, more and more insecticides and pesticides for intensive agriculture to supply the meat industry, plastics, medications, et cetera, all this end up in our food and water, and then in our body. Endocrine disrupters. We notice some alarmous changes: hundreds of toxic substances (like PCB, DDT, mercury...) in everybody's blood, polluted flora, more and more mutations and malformations in the fauna (hermaphrodite animals, infertility...). Endangered species... including us, humans. Males' sperm is getting poor quality and penis gets smaller over generations. Hormones are inversed or amplified: 8 years young girls with huge breasts, pubic hair and menstruations, young boys with female breast...

"It's official: Men really are the weaker sex

Evolution is being distorted by pollution, which damages genitals and the ability to father offspring, says new study. Geoffrey Lean reports

Sunday, 7 December 2008

The male gender is in danger, with incalculable consequences for both humans and wildlife, startling scientific research from around the world reveals.

The research – to be detailed tomorrow in the most comprehensive report yet published – shows that a host of common chemicals is feminising males of every class of vertebrate animals, from fish to mammals, including people.

Backed by some of the world's leading scientists, who say that it "waves a red flag" for humanity and shows that evolution itself is being disrupted, the report comes out at a particularly sensitive time for ministers. On Wednesday, Britain will lead opposition to proposed new European controls on pesticides, many of which have been found to have "gender-bending" effects.

It also follows hard on the heels of new American research which shows that baby boys born to women exposed to widespread chemicals in pregnancy are born with smaller penises and feminised genitals.

"This research shows that the basic male tool kit is under threat," says Gwynne Lyons, a former government adviser on the health effects of chemicals, who wrote the report.

Wildlife and people have been exposed to more than 100,000 new chemicals in recent years, and the European Commission has admitted that 99 per cent of them are not adequately regulated. There is not even proper safety information on 85 per cent of them.

Many have been identified as "endocrine disrupters" – or gender-benders – because they interfere with hormones. These include phthalates, used in food wrapping, cosmetics and baby powders among other applications; flame retardants in furniture and electrical goods; PCBs, a now banned group of substances still widespread in food and the environment; and many pesticides.

The report – published by the charity CHEMTrust and drawing on more than 250 scientific studies from around the world – concentrates mainly on wildlife, identifying effects in species ranging from the polar bears of the Arctic to the eland of the South African plains, and from whales in the depths of the oceans to high-flying falcons and eagles.

It concludes: "Males of species from each of the main classes of vertebrate animals (including bony fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals) have been affected by chemicals in the environment.

"Feminisation of the males of numerous vertebrate species is now a widespread occurrence. All vertebrates have similar sex hormone receptors, which have been conserved in evolution. Therefore, observations in one species may serve to highlight pollution issues of concern for other vertebrates, including humans."

Fish, it says, are particularly affected by pollutants as they are immersed in them when they swim in contaminated water, taking them in not just in their food but through their gills and skin. They were among the first to show widespread gender-bending effects.

Half the male fish in British lowland rivers have been found to be developing eggs in their testes; in some stretches all male roaches have been found to be changing sex in this way. Female hormones – largely from the contraceptive pills which pass unaltered through sewage treatment – are partly responsible, while more than three-quarters of sewage works have been found also to be discharging demasculinising man-made chemicals. Feminising effects have now been discovered in a host of freshwater fish species as far away as Japan and Benin, in Africa, and in sea fish in the North Sea, the Mediterranean, Osaka Bay in Japan and Puget Sound on the US west coast.

Research at the University of Florida earlier this year found that 40 per cent of the male cane toads – a species so indestructible that it has become a plague in Australia – had become hermaphrodites in a heavily farmed part of the state, with another 20 per cent undergoing lesser feminisation. A similar link between farming and sex changes in northern leopard frogs has been revealed by Canadian research, adding to suspicions that pesticides may be to blame.

Male alligators exposed to pesticides in Florida have suffered from lower testosterone and higher oestrogen levels, abnormal testes, smaller penises and reproductive failures. Male snapping turtles have been found with female characteristics in the same state and around the Great Lakes, where wildlife has been found to be contaminated with more than 400 different chemicals. Male herring gulls and peregrine falcons have produced the female protein used to make egg yolks, while bald eagles have had difficulty reproducing in areas highly contaminated with chemicals.

Scientists at Cardiff University have found that the brains of male starlings who ate worms contaminated by female hormones at a sewage works in south-west England were subtly changed so that they sang at greater length and with increased virtuosity.

Even more ominously for humanity, mammals have also been found to be widely affected.

Two-thirds of male Sitka black-tailed deer in Alaska have been found to have undescended testes and deformed antler growth, and roughly the same proportion of white-tailed deer in Montana were discovered to have genital abnormalities.

In South Africa, eland have been revealed to have damaged testicles while being contaminated by high levels of gender-bender chemicals, and striped mice from one polluted nature reserved were discovered to be producing no sperm at all.

At the other end of the world, hermaphrodite polar bears – with penises and vaginas – have been discovered and gender-benders have been found to reduce sperm counts and penis lengths in those that remained male. Many of the small, endangered populations of Florida panthers have been found to have abnormal sperm.

Other research has revealed otters from polluted areas with smaller testicles and mink exposed to PCBs with shorter penises. Beluga whales in Canada's St Lawrence estuary and killer whales off its north-west coast – two of the wildlife populations most contaminated by PCBs – are reproducing poorly, as are exposed porpoises, seals and dolphins.

Scientists warned yesterday that the mass of evidence added up to a grave warning for both wildlife and humans. Professor Charles Tyler, an expert on endocrine disrupters at the University of Exeter, says that the evidence in the report "set off alarm bells". Whole wildlife populations could be at risk, he said, because their gene pool would be reduced, making them less able to withstand disease and putting them at risk from hazards such as global warming.

Dr Pete Myers, chief scientist at Environmental Health Sciences, one of the world's foremost authorities on gender-bender chemicals, added: "We have thrown 100, 000 chemicals against a finely balanced hormone system, so it's not surprising that we are seeing some serious results. It is leading to the most rapid pace of evolution in the history of the world.

Professor Lou Gillette of Florida University, one of the most respected academics in the field, warned that the report waved "a large red flag" at humanity. He said: "If we are seeing problems in wildlife, we can be concerned that something similar is happening to a proportion of human males"

Indeed, new research at the University of Rochester in New York state shows that boys born to mothers with raised levels of phthalates were more likely to have smaller penises and undescended testicles. They also had a shorter distance between their anus and genitalia, a classic sign of feminisation. And a study at Rotterdam's Erasmus University showed that boys whose mothers had been exposed to PCBs grew up wanting to play with dolls and tea sets rather than with traditionally male toys.

Communities heavily polluted with gender-benders in Canada, Russia and Italy have given birth to twice as many girls than boys, which may offer a clue to the reason for a mysterious shift in sex ratios worldwide. Normally 106 boys are born for every 100 girls, but the ratio is slipping. It is calculated that 250,000 babies who would have been boys have been born as girls instead in the US and Japan alone.

And sperm counts are dropping precipitously. Studies in more than 20 countries have shown that they have dropped from 150 million per millilitre of sperm fluid to 60 million over 50 years. (Hamsters produce nearly three times as much, at 160 million.) Professor Nil Basu of Michigan University says that this adds up to "pretty compelling evidence for effects in humans".

But Britain has long sought to water down EU attempts to control gender-bender chemicals and has been leading opposition to a new regulation that would ban pesticides shown to have endocrine-disrupting effects. Almost all the other European countries back it, but ministers – backed by their counterparts from Ireland and Romania – are intent on continuing their resistance at a crucial meeting on Wednesday. They say the regulation would cause a collapse of agriculture in the UK, but environmentalists retort that this is nonsense because the regulation has get-out clauses that could be used by British farmers."

Should we supplement or not ?

About 100 million Americans use vitamin pills because they are sure it helps them to be healthy and they spend 25 billion US $. But nothing proves that supplements help to live longer or healthier.

Here's an article that shows how "scientific" studies are ineffective at proving some stuff. It can't say clearly if vitamin pills are effective or not to protect from illness/reduce risks of disease. Some studies say vitamin pills don't really have any positive or negative effect - but they're not sure... A few studies show that certain supplements could reduce the risks of certain health issues... but they're not absolutly sure. And some other studies say supplements could even be counterproductive and cause premature deaths - but they're not sure...
Some scientists are so incompetent that in one study they consider the vitamins from fruits and veggies to be the samething as vitamins from supplements !

Some studies have even shown a negative supplement effect. Analysis of data collected from some 70,000 postmenopausal nurses showed that over an 18-year period, those who consumed the most vitamin A from food or from supplements had the greatest risk of bone fractures.

I've read today that a 40 years-old man got seriously illed because of a Vitamin D overdose due to supplements. He had been taking those pills for like 2 years and then had to go to the hospital and it took 30 months for the vitamin D blood level to go back to normal. I've read this in a magazine, but here's some quotes from the article on Canadianliving.com which summarize vaguely a bunch of studies. And here's the link to the article.
Do Multivitamins Work ?

A typical survey-type, or "observational," study involved over 83,000 healthy American physicians who filled out questionnaires about supplement intake and dietary habits. Roughly 30 percent of the doctors regularly took vitamin supplements. After about six years, 1,000 or so had died of some form of cardiovascular disease. Were the deceased more or less likely to have been taking antioxidant supplements? As it turned out, there was no relationship between supplement intake and cardiovascular death. Of course, it is possible that physicians are more health conscious that others and pay more attention to their diet, so that they already had a sufficient intake of antioxidants.

low vitamin E intake during pregnancy has shown to increase the risk of childhood asthma, and women who take vitamin supplements during pregnancy appear to have a reduced risk of having infants who develop brain tumours.

Vitamin C
How about studies of blood levels of vitamins? English researchers in one case found that among 20,000 people, those who had the highest level of vitamin C in the blood lived the longest. But was this because of the vitamin C, or was the vitamin C just acting as a marker for increased fruit and vegetable intake? Low levels of folic acid have been linked with breast cancer, heart disease and, most significantly, with giving birth to babies with neural tube defects. Still, such studies do not show cause and effect. You can never be certain that the observations are not due to some other dietary factor that happens to parallel folic acid in its presence. That's why intervention studies are the most meaningful. And in the case of folic acid in pregnant women, they certainly back up the observational studies. Supplementing the diet with 400 micrograms of folic acid daily significantly reduces the risk of neural tube defect.

Antioxydants
Researchers in Oxford, England, enrolled over 20,000 adults with heart disease risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure or high blood cholesterol in a major study. Half received a daily supplement of 600 IU vitamin E, 250 milligrams vitamin C and 20 milligrams beta-carotene, while the others got a placebo. The supplements were certainly effective in increasing blood levels of vitamins, as tests clearly showed. But after five years there was absolutely no difference in any form of disease or in death rates between the groups. Maybe, though, these subjects already had the beginnings of cardiovascular disease that could not be reversed with the supplements and perhaps in a healthy group, supplements can prevent disease. Maybe …

To supplement or not?
As is evident, it is possible to support either side of the "to supplement or not" debate by looking at the scientific literature selectively. But what happens when scientists put all the data together in a meta-analysis? Sometimes they just add to the confusion! That's what Goran Bjelakovic and his colleagues at the University of Nis in Serbia and Montenegro apparently did when they examined the relationship between dietary antioxidants and the risk of gastrointestinal cancers. Free radicals can form in the gut and have been implicated in cancer, and fruits and vegetables have been shown to be protective, presumably because of the antioxidant content. So it certainly seemed reasonable to expect that antioxidant supplements should be beneficial in preventing cancer. Bjelakovic scoured the scientific literature and identified 14 rigorous placebo-controlled trials involving over 170,000 subjects. All the trials used oral supplements, although amounts varied, as did combinations. Vitamin C ranged from 120 to 2,000 milligrams a day, vitamin A from 1.5 to 15 milligrams, beta-carotene from 15 to 50 milligrams, selenium from 50 to 228 micrograms and vitamin E from 30 to 600 IU. The supplements were taken for years, either daily or every other day. Such doses are typical of what average consumers might take.

Shocking results
The results of the meta-analysis were unexpected. No protection against esophageal, gastric, colorectal, pancreatic or liver cancer was found. Selenium supplementation in a few of the trials did show some optimistic results. Now for the real shocker: in seven trials, all of high quality, involving over 130,000 subjects, the supplement takers had a higher rate of premature death! The researchers actually calculated that one premature death would be expected for every 100 people taking supplements. Little wonder that this work prompted sensational headlines like "Vitamins Only Take You Closer To Death." How do we interpret this surprising finding? The study was well executed and has statistical weight, but is it not possible that people who are ill are more likely to take supplements and that this explains the increased mortality? Or that supplements are most effective when taken for longer periods? And maybe they don't protect against cancer but have other benefits.

Supplements proved not helpful
Dr. Bjelakovic decided to look into this possibility by mounting a second meta-analysis. His team tracked hundreds of published trials on the health effects of beta-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and selenium supplements, and whittled these down to 68 that met the criteria for proper blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled trials. Some studies used low doses of supplements, some high; some lasted months, other many years. Some used single antioxidants, others used various combinations. But the strength of a anti-meta-analysis lies in pooling results from many studies, evening out variables and allowing an overall conclusion to emerge. As in his previous study, Bjelakovic found no benefit from the supplements, and as before, he noted an increase in mortality among supplement takers. The data appear to be robust. More than 230,000 participants were involved in the 68 trials, 21 of which focused on healthy subjects who were taking antioxidants to prevent disease.

Better to get our vitamins from food than from pills
While I do not think that vitamin supplements are killing us, there is mounting evidence that it is better to get our vitamins from food than from pills. It seems that there is an almost magical blend of antioxidants, minerals and probably unrecognized other ingredients in fruits, vegetables and whole grains that cannot be replicated in supplements. A 13-member expert panel of the National Institutes of Health in the United States concluded that there is insufficient evidence for or against recommending vitamin supplements except in three cases. Supplementation with B vitamins in women of child-bearing age is beneficial, as is supplementation with calcium and vitamin D in postmenopausal women to prevent bone fractures. And the progression of macular degeneration can be reduced with a mix of beta-carotene, zinc, vitamin C and vitamin E.

Pollution

I'm living in an apartment with many students, we all have our own room, of course I'm the only vegan. There's one especially who cook meat every night, like cook it a lot, because of course he wouln't like to eat this shit raw or just half-cooked, but there's no ventilation system over the stove and he wouldn't think about opening the window when it's -20 degrees celcius outside. So what results of burning animal corpses everynight is an odor of burned meat almost 24/7 and now it's even going in my room, like a deep fog or smoke of death or interior smog. As I'm breathing now, I can smell those carcinogenic molecules and feel them irritating my nostrils and entering my body. I became really sensitive to such pollution after not eating it for years now, and it's the exact samething with cigarettes. Even when someone smokes OUTSIDE and I just cross this person for half a second, this little cloud of toxic smoke intoxicates me a lot, way more than when I was smoking 10 cigarettes per day! I say cigarettes and all kind of voluntary and involuntary pollution should be illegal, prohibited and abolished! I know it's sad for the smokers who really enjoy ruining their lungs and body and to do the same to others who breathe the secondary smoke, and some will say it would be against their freedom to not let them smoke cigarettes anymore, but it's for their good and for others too.
